The data that has been collated here in order to formulate a timeline of Britten’s known performances of works by Mozart, has been retrieved primarily from the performance records held at The Britten-Pears Library at Aldeburgh in Suffolk. However, it quickly became apparent that some of the works that were scheduled or advertised to be performed where, for numerous reasons, not always given. Therefore, all available means have been sought in order to verify the dates and works that have been listed. Where it has been possible, various other sources have been used to verify them, including: diary entries, letters of correspondence, programme notes, published recording dates and biographical snippets. Unfortunately, not all dates and schedules could be confirmed so it is conceivable, that in light of any new evidence, some entries might later prove to be inaccurate. Therefore, it should be noted that this resource is very much a work-in-progress. If any reader is aware of, and has evidence to prove (or contradict), that Britten performed any work by Mozart on a date that is not recorded within the timeline, please contact Dr Simon Brown in order to discuss the matter further. Thus eventually, it is hoped that this resource will become both more accurate and comprehensive over time.
